We’ve been chosen to operate the new early childhood center for approximately 65 children in the new San Francisco Public Utilities Commission Building at 525 Golden Gate Avenue. The building is now finished and will qualify famously as a Platinum LEED building. It is designed to be highly integrated with and friendly with the environment. We began serving infants and young toddlers in the summer of 2012 and preschool children in the fall.
You are invited to tell your friends, family, co-workers, and community members that we are now taking applications and conducting interviews and tours of the new center and of our other long-established center in the block next door at 455 Golden Gate Avenue.
To apply for enrollment and to schedule an meeting for an interview and tour, you may click on the Enroll tab on our Home Page menu bar or go directly to Apply Online.
We have scheduled an Open House at the new center at 525 Golden Gate Avenue for Tuesday, November 27th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Please RSVP to the new Center director, Paul Chinn, at 415-626-4880.
We had final authorization from the SFPUC commissioners on March 27, 2012. We have been in the process of recruiting new families since then and will be hiring additional staff members, as enrollment fills, to complement the core staff that we are placing in the new center from our other centers. Many of our staff members are seasoned C5 staff who have been working for years in our Reggio-inspired, emergent, project-based curriculum. Several have been to Reggio Emilia, Italy on a U.S. Study Tour and are leaders in their respective curriculum and management areas.
Our new architect designed SFPUC Center has a program design for approximately 33 infants and young toddlers who are ages 6 weeks old to 2 years old; and approximately 42 preschoolers and pre-kindergarten children who are ages 2 years old to 5.9 years old.
Our long established Preschool Center in the State Office Building at 455 Golden Gate Avenue has approximately 80 children, ages 18 months old to 6 years old. The groups at the Preschool Center are two classrooms of 12 toddlers each who are ages 18 months to 2.5 years old; one classroom of 24 young preschool children, ages 2.5 to 3.5 years old; and, one large classroom of 32 older preschool and pre-kindergarten children, ages 3.5 to 6 years old.
