Playgrounds

Playgrounds

The playground areas at both centers are exclusive, open-air, dedicated spaces just for C5 children, staff, and families. Children go outside approximately twice a day. There are other play areas where children go for special events, when it is raining, or to gain new perspectives.

At the Infant-toddler Center

The outdoor playground area is located immediately next to the classrooms and has a wide range of exploration and play items, materials, and equipment, including large trees, plants, a sand box area, and mostly soft decking surface for the children.

Other play areas are outdoors on the large Central Plaza, in the long indoor hallway next to the classrooms, in the large oval tree-lined cafeteria, and in the two large training rooms.

At the Preschool Center

The outdoor playground area is located on the same level as the Preschool Center classrooms and is open to the air and sun and bordered on one side by the building cafeteria with large floor to ceiling windows and on the other three sides by the building offices. Children have choices of a wide range of exploration and play items; materials; equipment; large fruit trees; bamboo plants; small vegetable, herb, and flowering plants; a sand box area; large wagons and trucks; a special garden area; and, soft decking surface for the children.

Other play areas are on the large, carpeted mezzanine outside of the Preschool Center office; in the Great Hall in the center of the building; and, in the Conference Center, where there is an auditorium with a stage, and in eight spacious training rooms. On special occasions, the older children go to the Civic Center Park in front of City Hall, just across the street.
